For those of you who don't know, or can't tell by looking at us, we like fitness things. Maybe we just like to buy fitness things. Really, I promise that Chad and I want to eat right and be healthy. We want to be those awesome people that are still climbing mountains when they are 70. Well, our 20s have been hard on us. We met at 18 and our bodies were in much better shape then. Slowly, but surely they have expanded their area until we are quite glum about it. We would always say that we will start dieting tomorrow, or next week we will start on a new exercise plan with those starts never really well, starting. So, we finally decided last weekend that this time it's for real. A couple of things motivated us. 1) health reasons: Chad has mild sleep apnea and he will not have to be hooked to a machine if he can lose weight, also he has high blood pressure and if he can control it then he won't have to go on medication, I on the other hand am fatigued, grouchy, and really getting sick of not wearing 90% of the clothes in my closet. 2) It is now a competition in my family. We are going to hike Table Rock this summer with my brothers and my sisters-in-law. I told them all to start working out so that we can make it to the top. Now it's on. Evidently we are in a competition. I'm not sure how we are measuring it or how we will declare the winner, but for now the trash talking is fun. Last week was week one for us. We measured with a measuring tape our inches, we weighed in everyday to watch progress, and we sat down and planned out every meal and calorie. We tried to really increase the vegetable intake this week, which is very tough for me. We also focused on encouraging each other and being a team. It feels pretty good so far.
Chad, being a guy, lost more weight than I did this week. He went down 4 pounds and lost about 5 inches from his body. I know it sounds like a lot of inches but we measure in about 10 different spots. He did great at the diet and did pretty good at exercising. Our elliptical walker is very challenging for him so he tried to increase his time spent on that machine and then finishes up with the health rider to complete a 20 minute workout each morning. He is awesome!
I didn't do as great. For me diet is key. I have been working out every morning for months and still eating non healthy food and the scale would never tip in my favor. It is difficult for me because I am surrounded by processed kid snacks all day long. This week we had a bag of twislers licorice bits left over from our trip to Boise, so I ate them to get them out of the way. I still lost 1.8 pounds and 4 inches. I am still training for doing a 5k so, I run for 30 minutes 3 times a week and lift weights 2 times a week.
We both feel good about week one. There was some hardships and challenges, but we made it. We just need to push on.
